End violence against women now!
Gender-based violence (GBV) against women and children is devastatingly high in South Africa

Women feel unsafe walking alone at night in their own neighbourhoods, for fear of becoming a victim of GBV. How much louder do we have to shout before violence against women and children sees a drastic decline?
FAST FACTS
- There are an estimated 736 million women worldwide who have been subjected to intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life
- Women are most often victimised by their current or former husbands or intimate partners
- Female genital mutilation has been performed on at least 200 million females in 31 countries across three continents
- Less than 40% of women who experience violence seek any form of help
IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW HAS BEEN A VICTIM OF GBV:
- Get medical attention immediately
- Get a copy of the doctor’s report of the injuries to the body, etc.
- In cases of sexual abuse, demand that a Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) test be administered at a hospital within 72 hours
- File a report at the police station and ask for a copy of the report
- Make sure the survivor has a safe place to stay
