iSimangaliso ‘elephant flip’ witnesses speak out

Visitors to the Eastern Shores section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park on Sunday had a closer-than-expected encounter with an elephant when it overturned their vehicle on the road to Cape Vidal.

Richards Bay’s North Central Arterial open after tanker jackknife

The North Central Arterial was blocked by a tanker Wednesday morning when the driver attempted to make a U-turn and got stuck.

Many motorists and commuters were stuck in the rush-hour traffic jam which saw cars backed up all the way up to the Brackenham intersection.

WATCH: Hippos clash at boat club in Richards Bay

THIS (Friday) morning saw two hippos engaged in a brawl in the water at the Meerensee Boat Club.

The two animals emerged from the water near the club’s slipway, both viciously grunting at each other before colliding with their mouths wide open.

Weather service monitoring developing tropical storms

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is monitoring a series of tropical low pressure systems in the Southwest Indian Ocean Basin.

While cyclone season has got off to a quiet start, this weekend could see the naming of the region’s first low pressure system as it is expected to reach ‘moderate tropical storm’ status.

Blood stocks critically low

With blood stock levels countrywide still at an all time low, patients who rely on lifesaving transfusions remain at risk.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is urging new and existing donors to visit their nearest blood donor centre as soon as possible, to help boost the dwindling levels.
