Trucking protest halted as memorandum handed to council
Truck drivers strike on hold as negotiations continue

There is no major impact of the truck drivers’ protest which affected Richards Bay, among other places, on Monday.
This was the sentiment of National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI) secretary-general Musa Ndlovu.

This comes as trucks were on Monday halted by members of the All Truck Drivers’ Forum (ATDF) and Allied South Africa (ASA) at the proposed truck stop area at the Alton intersection on the John Ross, while members picketed alongside the roadway.
‘They have indeed received the memorandum and he has called a special executive meeting to discuss it,’ said Ndlovu, speaking to the Zululand Observer.

Meanwhile, ATDF and ASA national secretary-general Sifiso Nyathi said they are hopeful their demands will be met, and gave the council seven working days to respond, during which time protests would cease.
Nyathi said, however, that they would not hesitate to resume strike action after the seven day period, should their demands not be responded to.
