Zululand snake season not letting up
A shape shifting snake was caught on Friday in Empangeni
Like the fish that gets bigger every time the angler tells the story, a local hero watched a venomous snake grow before his eyes.
‘I was called out to Empangeni on Friday to capture a small brown snake,’ said Peter ‘Daring’ Daniel.

‘The domestic worker described how she had seen a piece of its tail in a bush on the property.
‘Fortunately, she kept an eye on it while I was travelling there, and just as well it didn’t escape.’
In this case, the ‘tale’ was highly understated: it turned out to be a black mamba of just under three metres – and an angry one at that.
‘It gave me the run around for over half an hour as it went crazy and just kept on coming at me.’
The mamba was eventually caught and binned, but Peter doesn’t believe this will be his last catch of the season.
‘Most species will be about for the next month and then the activity will slow down; but that’s when the mambas get more active because winter time is mating time and they will be out looking for partners.’
