Why eggs are important in the first 1 000 days

For best protein supply to help with the baby’s development, include eggs in your diet

The first 1 000 days are the most crucial for a baby’s development and growth. Including eggs in your diet during pregnancy and in the baby’s early-stage diet is vital for protein supply.

A recent study in fields of early childhood development, neuroscience and biology show the first 1 000 days as a window for fast-paced growth and development.

During pregnancy, tissues grow rapidly, as does the child’s brain.

‘Eggs are an optimal source of nutrition during this period. One large egg contains 13 nutrients, including iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and biotin, as well as 7g of protein.

Protein is essential for healthy brain development, and provides the building blocks for muscle growth and a healthy immune system,’ said in a statement.

For pregnant women and mothers who are breastfeeding, eggs contain enough choline needed per day which contributes to the development of a healthy brain.

So, to ensure healthy development of your baby, both during pregnancy and after birth, be sure to include eggs in your diet.
