Warning of heavy, disruptive rain in parts of Zululand

The affected areas in Zululand include Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Jozini, uMfolozi, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba and Nongoma

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms as well as heavy flooding over the next 24 hours.

Ahead of the start of a brand new week, residents are warned of expected rainfall leading to localised flooding of susceptible, low-lying areas and bridges in western and southern parts of KZN tonight, but over the northern parts on Monday.

The affected areas in Zululand include Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Jozini, uMfolozi, Mthonjaneni, Mtubatuba and Nongoma.

SAWS also warned motorists to expect dangerous driving conditions as roads could be flooded.

‘Avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams when water is above your ankles. In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level. In rural areas protect and relocate animals to a safe place on higher ground. Take caution when travelling on roads as potholes may be filled with water and there may be sinkholes,’ read the statement.

The weather warning extends until Monday at 11pm.
