Ensure the safety of your home or business after the floods
If you experienced flood damage to critical infrastructure, take the necessary steps to have it repaired sooner than later

Many KZN home- and business owners experienced flood damage to their property, including damage to boundary walls, fences and gates, as a result of the recent heavy rains.
This could well pose a security risk, especially as repairs may take longer than usual to be carried out in light of the widespread nature of the destruction.

Now is the time for communities to work together and support one another, and security companies suggest becoming involved in neighbourhood watch initiatives.
Here are some simple safety tips to follow
• Ask your security provider if they can conduct additional patrols in your area.
• If you have outdoor beams, make sure they are armed at all times.
• Ensure your alarm is functioning properly. Make sure you have tested your alarm and that all battery packs, peripherals and components are working.
• Keep windows closed and lock your security doors.
• Park your vehicle in a safe and secure space, preferably in an area protected by outdoor beams, or consider installing security measures in your garage.
• Make sure your pets are safe and can’t wander off. Small dogs act as a good early warning system if kept inside your home.
• Help your community clear up the roads and surrounding areas. This assists security companies and authorities who need to respond to your home in an emergency.
• Make sure to update your customer information and ensure all your emergency contacts are up to date.
• Help your neighbours by keeping an eye on their property and report anything untoward to the authorities.
