Empangeni and Richards Bay SPCAs in dire need of animal food

The SPCAs are running particularly low on cat food

The SPCAs in Empangeni and Richards Bay are experiencing a shortage of animal food, most notably cat food.

Both branches call on members of the public to help relieve their plight and donate in their usual generous fashion.

‘We are running particularly low on cat food, and would be grateful if community members could help us during these difficult times,’ said Richards Bay SPCA manager Shelly Prinsloo.

She said both wet and dry food for both cats and kittens, as well as the same for dogs and puppies, would be greatly appreciated.

‘We want to take this opportunity to thank our animal-loving community and loyal SPCA supporters,’ said Prinsloo.

‘Without your generous donations, we would not be able to carry out our mandate, but we do have to call on your generosity once more.’

Many animals pass through the SPCA’s gates on a daily basis, and, with no regular government funding, the NPO relies on donations from the public.

With monthly running costs of R100 000 raised mainly through fundraising efforts, including market days and charity shops, the SPCA relies on food donations to feed the animals in its care.

Food donations can be handed in at Richards Bay SPCA’s premises in Meerensee, and at Empangeni SPCA’s premises on the R34 just outside town.
