Dukuduku ward committee on standby to assist in flood-prone areas

This as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) announced on Monday morning that the weather conditions in the province were expected to ‘significantly’ improve.

Members of the Dukuduku ward committee and the area’s war room are on standby to assist in flood-prone areas after heavy rainfall in the Mtubatuba area on Monday.

This as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) announced on Monday morning that the weather conditions in the province were expected to ‘significantly’ improve.

‘Rain will continue over the extreme northeastern parts of KZN and the eastern parts of Mpumalanga today, but will slowly clear from the afternoon,’ SAWS said.

On Monday, the weather service issued a level 2 warning for rainfall after a cut-off low wreaked havoc in Durban and surrounds over the weekend.

SAWS said ‘scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers’ were expected to continue over the northeastern parts of the province.

‘This may result in localised flooding and minor impacts in the northeastern parts of KZN,’ SAWS said.

Following last month’s destructive rains in the province, some residents of Dukuduku were hard hit, with their homes inundated with water.

Ward councillor Ntokozo Mlungwana said following SAWS’ warning ahead of last weekend’s heavy rains, residents were alerted.

‘We had a meeting with a group of residents from White City whose homes were flooded during the previous rains. We wanted to find a solution for their cases,’ Mlungwana said.

The councillor said it was unfortunate that in some of these cases, residents would have to relocate.

In the aftermath of the April floods, uMkhanyakude District and local municipalities deployed aid to the affected areas.
