Professionals remain the hope for change

The Progressive Professionals’ Forum under the Musa Dladla Region held a successful engagement programme themed The Think Tank and Resource Base of South Africa at uMfolozi Resort on Saturday.

Engaging on various topics, the professionals were challenged to be agents of change and give good advice to politicians within their respective fields.

Welcoming the engagement, City of uMhlathuze ward 9 councillor Mandla Mdaka said they were happy to have such a forum hosting sessions of this stature in his ward.

‘Professionals are think tanks of society, meaning they are able to come up with ideas that assist us in developing our communities, so their presence here gives us hope,’ said Mdaka.

Beaming with pride and hopeful for change based on issues touched on, Mdaka said the three major societal issues the country faces – poverty, inequality and unemployment – must be tackled in such sessions where professionals and captains of industry meet.

He said these forums should assist in bringing about researched solutions to fight the three pandemics that affect mostly black South Africans, and females in particular.

He called upon professionals to come up with planning strategies that speak to the current population in terms of access to health facilities, especially in townships such as Dumisani Makhaye.

Contributing to discussions was Professor Bikela Majuqwana who encouraged more engagements of this nature.

Professor Majuqwana called on government departments to assist previously disadvantaged individuals in business.

Participating in the discussions and presenting their departmental offerings were Agriculture and Rural

Development HOD Siza Sibande and Health HOD Sandile Shabalala.
