Ulundi Licensing Centre reopens after accident closure

The centre was officially reopened last week.

After temporarily closing its doors last month following an accident on the premises, the Ulundi Licensing Centre is now open.

The incident involved a learner driver crashing into an office, leaving two officials injured.

The centre was closed for repairs as most of the electric cables were damaged.

The centre was officially reopened last Wednesday and acting municipal manager Zwelihle Dhlamini said it would now operate on weekends between 8 am and midday.

‘This centre is not only meant for the local communities; those who live in other towns can also come and use it.

‘We know some areas were badly affected by the recent heavy rains, and our centre is ready to accommodate scores of people to apply for their learner’s or driver’s licences,’ said Dhlamini.

This sentiment was echoed by Mayor Wilson Ntshangase, who said they are passionate about service delivery to the people.

‘Many towns and cities were affected by the floods so we have decided to allow people from other towns to come to this centre when they need assistance.

‘We did the same during last year’s riots and looting.

‘We want to urge members of the community to respect this centre and treat it as their own. We don’t want any criminal activities at this centre.

‘It is fitted with cameras to ensure no bribery takes place here. I must state that those who are found committing such crimes will be arrested and thrown into jail,’ Ntshangase said.
