The impact of a criminal record on future prospects was highlighted by Mtubatuba and KwaMsane police officers

The impact of a criminal record on future prospects was highlighted by Mtubatuba and KwaMsane police officers at a Sports Against Crime event held at Indlovu Village.

Alongside the soccer games, which encouraged youth to engage in sports, Captain Justice Hlabisa, communications officer of Mtubatuba Saps, warned against bullying and carrying dangerous weapons at school.

‘Rather report bullying to parents or school teachers as they are capable of addressing the issues before they get out of hand,’ said Hlabisa.

‘Stealing your parents’ firearm and taking it to school to fight your battles is a crime. No one is allowed to carry a firearm without proper documentation.

‘If you commit a crime and are arrested, you will have a criminal record which will prevent you from being employed.

‘Most employers require police clearance when offering a job opportunity, so be careful in everything you do.’
Other crimes discussed were gender-based violence, rape, and the dangers of substance abuse.
