New wheels for disabled Mtubatuba man

Boy Musa Sithole's plight was noticed by his ward councillor who organised the wheelchair donation

A DISABLED Mtubatuba man who lives alone with no nearby family was last week given the gift of mobility in the form of a wheelchair.

The plight of Boy Musa Sithole (50) who lives in an RDP house in Nkatha, Phaphasi was noticed by the ward 8 councillor who organised the donation.

“Musa has been living alone for almost 20 years and his living conditions are a concern, so for part of my 67 minutes for Mandela initiative, I decided to help him out,” said Councillor Mlungisi Mnyango.

The unemployed Sithole survives on a disability grant and, while he at times works part time at a programme in Nkodibe which caters for people living with disabilities, of late he has been unable to get there owing to a lack of transportation.

Nkodibe is about 15km away from Nkatha. Last month, Sithole lost all his disability grant money in what he believes to be a case of fraud.

“I went to the social services offices in KwaMsane to find out what had happened after I went to the ATM and found there was no money in my account,” he said.

“They told me money was withdrawn on 17 June at 2am from an ATM in KwaMsane, but my card was with me the whole time. That is the day the grant money was going to be paid in.

“They withdrew the entire R2 300 and I was left confused. I had to borrow money from my nephew to get back home,” Sithole said.

He said he was now in the process of dealing with this suspected fraud.

Sithole said the wheelchair is welcomed because it means he will be able to move around with ease.

Mnyango called for other potential kind-hearted donors to reach out with a helping hand towards Sithole.
