LISTEN: City of uMhlathuze joins in mourning the passing of Buthelezi
City to dedicate September service delivery programmes to celebrating 'Champion of culture'
“PRINCE Mangosuthu Buthelezi was not just a leader; he was a symbol of unwavering dedication to the cause of freedom and justice.”
These were the words of the City of uMhlathuze and Mayor Xolani Ngwezi, who on Saturday extended condolences to the Buthelezi family, the IFP, and the entire Zulu nation after Buthelezi’s passing in the early hours of the morning.

“His legacy as a founding member and President Emeritus of the IFP, Prime Minister to the Zulu nation and monarch, will forever be etched in the annals of South African history.”
“Prince Buthelezi’s impact on our community and the broader South African society has been immeasurable,” said the city.
Describing the man who dedicated his life to politics as a ‘champion of culture’ and a ‘staunch advocate for the recognition of traditional authority’, the city announced that it would dedicate all its service delivery programmes for September to celebrating Buthelezi’s life and achievements.
“His contributions to the development of KZN are imprinted in the more than 2 000 schools he helped establish, including the prestigious Mangosuthu University of Technology, and his role in the construction of the University of Zululand.
“His commitment extended beyond education, as he played a pivotal role in the creation of townships, the establishment of factories, and numerous other achievements that have left an indelible mark on our region.”
