Melomed partners with RBM to promote men’s health

The men’s health awareness campaign included a presentation by Specialist Urologist Dr Ziphozonke Mkhize and free prostate (PSA) screenings by Melomed and PathCare

WITH November being Men’s Health Month, Melomed Richards Bay partnered with Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) to host a men’s health awareness campaign for the mine’s employees.

“This campaign formed part of Melomed’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aimed at preventing and educating the patient population at large, as early detection is an integral component of preventing and beating cancer,” said Hospital Manager Randal Pedro.

The campaign included activities and educational programmes, sharing knowledge on men’s reproductive health and offering prostate screening, sponsored by PathCare.

Doctor Ziphozonke Mkhize, Specialist Urologist, and the Melomed team conducted free prostate screening for 100 male RMB employees, 40 years and older.

Dr Mkhize engaged with the men on issues such as infertility, reproductive health, and prostate cancer.

This was a valuable forum for RBM’s employees to share their health-related concerns and questions.

Panel Discussions

RBM also hosted a two-day panel discussion for its male staff on the theme of men’s work-life balance, discussing gender-based violence, respect in the workplace, navigating marriage and relationships, mental and physical health, as well as addressing life trauma experiences.

These were facilitated by founder and master coach at CoachLeo Institute, Leonard Mashao, and Human Resources business partner Mxolisi Ngwenya.
Panel members included Managing Director Werner Duvenhage; General Manager for Communications and Community Relations, Bheki Nowele; RBM’s Occupational Medical Practitioner, Dr Nkululeko Molife; and Melomed-based Specialist Neurosurgeon Dr Nondabula Moyeni.

“We look forward to more healthy engagements to educate the community of services and screenings which are accessible and within their reach,” concluded Pedro.
