Spotlight on RBIDZ as it scoops the award

The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone is thrilled to have been recently recognised by the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) during its Annual Business Excellence Awards held at Umfolozi Casino and Resort.

Proving to have a track record of recognising and honouring industry excellence, the ZCCI hosted the prestigious awards under the theme ‘Timeless Excellence’.

The event, which continues to inspire excellence and recognise impactful contributions by the industry and other organisations, featured 16 different categories that contested for recognition.

An ISO 9001 and 14001 certified company, the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone scooped the Safety Awareness Award, which is a reflection of the outstanding and effective safety protocols that the company upholds. This is also a testament that the SEZ is committed to advocating for health and safety and ensuring that stringent measures within its overall operations, industrial areas and infrastructure development are adhered to.

The award also confirmed that the RBIDZ enforces high-quality SHEQ procedures in the workplace for the well-being of its employees, investors, contractors, and all stakeholders in order to eliminate any potential hazards and incidents that could compromise operations and optimal performance of the company.

With the RBIDZ’s core function being accelerating economic development in the province through infrastructure development, investment attraction, job creation and skills development, the entity exists to transform the lives of the communities within the region and was also acknowledged as the runner-up in the Best Employer category, competing with South32 Hillside Aluminium, a multi-national mining company.

The nomination highlights that the efforts injected towards changing the socio-economic landscape of the region are recognised. Unemployment remains a huge predicament and a social issue negatively impacting the country, and requires social partnerships and collaboration by both public and private sectors to overcome.

“On the other hand, the attained Safety Awareness Award will increase the emphasis and innovation on all safety protocols, considering that the RBIDZ deals with enormous catalyst infrastructure projects, which contribute towards industrial development of the City. Being an ISO 9001 and 14001 certified company, safety and health compliance will continue to be prioritised within the SEZ.”

An ecstatic Ms. Nombuso Nsele, Executive Manager – Corporate Services, and Percy Langa, SHEQ Manager, receiving the award on behalf of the company, expressed gratitude for the continuous acknowledgements, which empowers all categories of staff to work even harder towards the realisation of its mandate.
