Richards Bay Lighting – the light in your life
As Richards Bay Lighting celebrates 5 years of lighting up the homes and businesses of Zululanders, it prides itself in keeping up-to-date on the latest technology in lighting, its old-fashioned customer service and the friendly, helpfulness of the staff.
YOU probably already know that at Richards Bay Lighting, you only get the best indoor and outdoor lights plus a big range of fittings and other accessories to light up your life, with a personalised service to go.
But did you know that this proudly Zululand company can trace its roots back almost 50 years?

1969 till now
Richards Bay Lighting started as an electrical construction company back in 1969 by Cyril Wilson and his son Jimmy under the name C&J Wilson.
It was one of the first businesses in Dollar Drive – where it still sits today – after Jimmy acquired an empty plot in 1980 and began constructing a business complex.
The Richards Bay Lighting showroom was opened in May of 1983, by Jimmy Wilson and his wife, Sue, and their son James joined the contracting business after school.
James married Wuanita in 1992, but he, unfortunately, passed away in an industrial accident while working on a site in Empangeni the same year.

The contracting business was closed and the premises sold, but Richards Bay Lighting stayed on as a tenant at the Dollar Drive address.
Wuanita joined the company in 2012 and Shauné, her daughter, also joined in 2007.
Upon Sue’s passing in 2017, Jimmy was less involved in the day-to-day running of the business and eventually sold the business to the mother-and-daughter team.

Wuanita and Shauné took possession of Richards Bay Lighting on 10 June 2019.
During the last five years, a few cosmetic changes have been made to the showroom, but the old-fashioned customer service and the friendly, helpfulness of the staff remained.

Lighting for the people
At Richards Bay Lighting we pride ourselves on keeping up to date on the latest technology in lighting. We are not afraid to say that we don’t know everything, but we are prepared to learn and to impart the knowledge we have.
We have built relationships that have lasted for years and hope to build more in the future.

The example left by Sue and Jimmy is one of faith.
Faith in God, trusting Him to supply our every need, believing that all things happen for a reason, and that He will never leave us nor forsake us.

All our staff have been well-trained and are also born-and-bred Zululanders.
Our goal is to see our staff achieve their full potential, whether it is getting their driver’s licence or purchasing a home.
The team at Richards Bay Lighting would like to thank all our customers and friends for their belief in us, and for trusting our judgement when it comes to the lighting in their homes and businesses.
We would also like to thank all previous staff members for the role that they played in helping grow the business to what it is today.
We will be celebrating our fifth year as owners from 10 June to 15 June by having a ‘pop-a-balloon’ competition in store with every purchase.
Come celebrate with us during that week.
