What does the ocean mean to you?

Participate in this survey to assist scientific research

In an effort to understand more about how people use, experience and value the marine environment around South Africa, a group of marine biologists is conducting a sea survey.

Funded through the British Academy, this collaborative project brings together researchers from Cardiff University, SAAMBR (SA Association for Marine Biological Research) and the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation, and seeks to build on the emerging global ocean literacy research community.

The project aims to identify a forward-looking research agenda for ocean literacy, specifically in an African context, and will foster a network for collaboration, co-operation and capacity building related to ocean literacy and connections.

“Recent years have seen a growing awareness of how understanding people’s relationship with the ocean can help us achieve sustainable ocean governance for the future,” said the scientists.
