According to the municipality, the fire occurred last night (Saturday), the result of which is water interruptions to eSikhaleni township, Vulindlela, Felixton, Madlankala, Gobandlovu, and Mkhwanazi North and South.

“The community is encouraged to store water. The municipality is working hard to restore water supply as soon as possible,” said the city on its Facebook page.

After months of little to no water supplied to the 14 wards under the eSikhaleni cluster, the City of uMhlathuze replaced a 400m stretch of the 600mm pipeline.

Addressing the affected communities recently, uMhlathuze Mayor Xolani Ngwezi said those found to be responsible for vandalism would be brought to book.

The area has seen numerous protests, at times violent, in recent months as residents reach boiling point with the situation.
