Time to act on International Overdose Awareness Day

Remember those who lost their lives

LIGHT a candle to remember those who lost their loved ones to a drug overdose.

Today, 31 August, is International Overdose Awareness Day, and everyone is encouraged to wear silver/grey and purple to commemorate the day.

The aim of the day is to create awareness and remember families who have lost their loved ones to overdosing of alcohol or drugs.

You can do your part by purchasing or making purple wristbands, pins, shirts or other items and wear them today. You still have time!

What else can you do?
· Encourage your workplace to participate in observance activities
· Hold a candlelight vigil
· Offer an educational programme, such as one related to preventing opioid use, in partnership with a local organisation
· Provide a safe space for telling stories of overdose victims
· Offer a large canvas and washable paint so survivors can add a handprint in memory of their loved one/s
· Display empty hats or shoes to represent the number of lives lost in the community
· Add the name of a loved one who died of an overdose to a Celebrating Lost Loved Ones map
