Military seeks permission to utilise Amakhosi land
Armed Forces Day honours those who fought in World War I
ZULULANDERS can expect a spectacular show when the SANDF descends onto the region for their annual Armed Forces Day in February.
Briefing Amakhosi as to the significance of the day, Captain Zamo Khumalo said it was in honour of the South African soldiers who paid the ultimate price during World War I.

Khumalo said the SANDF saw it fitting to first engage with traditional leaders because they would be performing many activities on their land.
“It is important to consult with Amakhosi because we have a number of events planned for the entire week, including visiting schools and outreach programmes, hence we are here to seek permission to be in the areas of the Amakhosi, and not to do as we please just because we are the army,” said Khumalo.
Moreover, communities within the region are expected to be the main beneficiaries of this programme, according to Khumalo.
He said the staging of this event would require services, and only suppliers within the region would be given the opportunity to carry out the work.
“We will bring an economic injection to this district, as well as exposure of the City of uMhlathuze and the province to the international community as this day is televised internationally,” said Khumalo.
King Cetshwayo District House of Traditional Leadership acting chairperson Inkosi Nsikayezwe Cebekhulu said it was encouraging to see the SANDF consult them ahead of time.
