Education MEC Mbali Frazer said KZN administered the biggest examination system in the country.
“Given the large number of full- and part-time candidates, it means KZN must also have the biggest marking system in the country,” said Frazer.
“We have 32 marking centres, 8 539 markers, 1 708 senior markers, 342 deputy chief markers, 67 chief markers and 87 moderators.
“There are also 1 785 examinations assistants and 260 administrative assistants.
The selection of markers commenced on 16 May and was concluded on 2 June.
The selection panel consisted of a provincial chairperson, chief markers, internal moderators and teacher unions as observers.
“We wish the markers all the best during the marking process, and urge them to take this important task with the seriousness and dedication it deserves.
“It should not escape them that every paper they will be handling represents the life and future of an individual,” she said.
Frazer promised to monitor marking at the various centres.
