Take the hassle out of your holiday this year by using this easy-to-follow safety guideline.
1. Check the safety of the vehicle
You don’t want anything to happen while on the road, which is why you need to take all the necessary precautions before you head out. Here is a checklist before you get going.
· Check that your car is completely roadworthy by checking the tyres, brakes and windscreen wipers before setting off
· Check that you have a reflective triangle and torch in the car
· Check your spare tyre before heading out and that all the required tools are where they should be in case you get a flat
· Get any window chips and cracks repaired before travelling
· If you’re transporting a trailer or other goods like bicycles, make sure they are securely attached
2. What to do when travelling
When it’s time to hit the road, make sure you have everything you need before setting off. Here are a few useful guidelines to keep you safe
· Plan your journey well ahead of time and familiarise yourself with the route. This includes planning stops for refuelling, food and bathroom breaks
· Charge all devices, and keep a charger in the car, particularly if you’re using a route app such as Google Maps
· Take lots of water with you in the car, as well as a selection of snacks to prevent you from having to stop too often
· Keep valuables out of sight at all times
· If you’re travelling a long distance, have a second driver to assist so you don’t get tired
· Stop regularly, keep rehydrated and stay alert.
Keep you and your family safe this holiday by planning accordingly.
