No injuries were reported during the harrowing ordeal

MOZAMBICAN tourists were yesterday (Tuesday) shaken to the core after a group of protesters stopped the bus on which they were travelling and ordered them to disembark with their belongings before setting it alight.

The incident occurred during protest action on the R22 in the Hluhluwe area near the south gate cattle grid to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

The protest is believed to be about cross-border crime after numerous hijackings in the area.

Police said Hluhluwe SAPS are investigating a case of hijacking, malicious damage to property, and public violence.

Meanwhile, Transport MEC Sipho Hlomuka condemned the incident, and said the department is working with other stakeholders to bring cross-border crime under control.
