Numerous arrests in district-wide police operation

The operation was carried out on Friday

Thirteen suspects were on Friday arrested during a SAPS multi-disciplinary operation held in various areas under King Cetshwayo District.

Members from all police stations within the district participated, as well as those from neighbouring iLembe District, Provincial POP, Provincial TRT, K9, VCIU, Road Traffic Inspectorate, Santaco’s Hlokomela campaign members, and the departments of immigration, labour and fisheries.

King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase said the operation focused on drugs, illegal firearms, dangerous weapons, and illegal shebeens as contributing factors to property and contact crimes.

“The 13 suspects were arrested for various offences such as possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, possession of substance suspected to be drugs, suspected stolen property, unlicensed liquor outlets, and many illegal shebeens were closed down,” he said.

Dagga recovered during the operation

District commissioner Major General Sipho Ngubane welcomed and applauded the arrests and recoveries made during the operation.

Ngubane said the arrests will send a stern message to criminals that if they are found on the wrong side of the law, they will be arrested.

“We will intensify our operations until our district is safe and crime-free,” he said.
