Police in Mtubatuba have opened a case of concealment of birth after the body of a baby, believed to be a month or a few weeks old, was found near a footpath in eMfekayi, Mtubatuba, on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sbusiso Mkhize said no arrest has been made and investigations are ongoing.
“The cause of the child’s death is unknown at this stage. It will be determined by a postmortem,” Mkhize said.
It was reported that when the baby’s body was found, it was wrapped in a blanket near a busy path.
The baby’s family has not been identified.
