Body of newborn found under mother’s bed

An Mbazwana woman was arrested last week for the alleged murder of her newborn baby.

This after the infant was found underneath its mother’s (33) bed, ‘hidden inside her house’.

Police spokesperson Captain Sbusiso Mkhize said the woman is from the KwaNhlamvu area in Mbazwana.

“The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Mkhize.

He said the woman is expected to appear this week at Mbazwana Magistrate’s Court and faces a charge of murder.

SAPS uMkhanyakude district commissioner Major General Mduduzi Shezi commended the community for tipping off the police, and for the police’s swift response.
