N2 shooting ‘not taxi-related’

Both vehicles were riddled with bullets

The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) refutes the allegation that Wednesday’s shooting on the N2 near the eSikhaleni turn-off was taxi-related.

Chairperson of the Ntambanana Taxi Association, Vika Biyela was attacked by unknown gunmen while on the N2 northbound

KZN spokesperson for the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), Mduduzi Makhunga said according to their investigation, the shooting was not taxi-related.

King Cetshwayo Cluster spokesperson Siyanda Shangase said a case of attempted murder was registered at eSikhaleni SAPS, but no arrest has been made.

“A taxi boss was attacked and shot while driving along the N2. His bodyguards were tailing him when another vehicle opened fire. The bodyguards returned fire, and the suspects fled the scene.

“Both vehicles were riddled with bullets and the taxi boss suffered a gunshot wound,” he said.
