Richards Bay teacher scoops global awards
The founder of KWV Maths and Science Training has been recognised for making two of the most 'feared' subjects more accessible to students
Not for the first time, local teacher Dr Khangelani Sibiya came out tops when competing on the global stage, bringing home no fewer than four awards from the 2024 Global Education Summit in Dubai on Sunday.
The founder of KWV Maths and Science Training has been recognised for making two of the most ‘feared’ subjects more accessible to students.
Sibiya was awarded an Outstanding Educational Influencer in the AKS Education Awards, as well as the Most Outstanding Educator in the 3rd Asia Pacific Global Achiever Awards in Canada in January, and the Most Inspiring Global Educator in IOER International Pinnacle Awards in the USA, also in January.
Speaking about his recent achievements, Sibiya said the Asian and US awards were not only for teachers, but for individuals across various sectors.
“I am very happy that my work got recognition from other countries. Winning in a category where you are competing against well-equipped countries means South Africa is moving in the right direction when it comes to our education. The standard is slowly coming close to matching those of the rich countries,” said Sibiya.
The fourth recognition was for KWV Maths and Science Training, which received the Exceptional Academic Institution award under the Best Practise category.
Sibiya said, while he’s thrilled with the awards, he’s disappointed that the education sector does not get support of other sectors, with all flights, accommodation and food paid for by the recipient.
