Art takes centre stage at Zini festival

The countdown is on for the annual Mtunzini Art in the Shade extravaganza, taking place this Friday, 28 August to Sunday, 30 August.

The shadow folk have been around town since the last full moon, and are eager to welcome visitors for this annual Rotary Club of Mtunzini fundraiser.

This year’s festival is going back to its roots, with a strong focus on art. There will also be a miniature art section – an exciting new development for this year’s event.

The venues are the Mtunzini Town Hall, the bowls club, and the area in between.

As with all Art in the Shade festivals, money collected goes to community projects, with this year’s beneficiary the Raphia Palm Monument Boardwalk.

As with previous events, art will be displayed in the Mtunzini Town Hall

Various workshops, such as hand clay creating, art journaling and mini-stamp making, will be held at the bowls club throughout the weekend, while photographic workshops and photography exhibitions will be held at the town hall.

Various schools are participating in the festival, including Mtunzini Primary, Step Up Learning Centre, Ancyra Christian Accademy, Felixton College and Grantleigh.

They will be exhibiting art, and Grantleigh and Felixton College will have musicians performing, including the Felixton marimba band and Grantleigh’s school band.

With various prizes up for grabs, there will be two bingo cards to fill out, and a raffle for three weekends away, as well as other prizes.

There will also be a lot of interactive art for adults and children, as well as a food court and bar.
