Empangeni residents outraged by poor state of town

Long grass, potholes among service delivery shortfalls angering Empangeni community

The once lovely town of Empangeni has come under serious scrutiny of late with basic services not delivered.

Issues such as the blatant neglect of grass cutting, a lack of maintenance, damaged stormwater drains, potholes and unclear road markings continue to haunt the town and anger its residents.

One of the town’s neglected parks

“We are tired of driving around Empangeni and seeing this long grass and stormwater drainage systems not being kept up to standard. The town is in a mess and I hope something is going to be done,” said a concerned resident who asked not to be named.

Fortunately, there appears to be some movement in the right direction, with uMhlathuze Municipality attending to a number of key challenges.

“We are aware of the situation at hand and promise to sort everything out to the best of our abilities,” said the municipality in a statement.
