WATCH: Car engulfed in flames on John Ross highway

Vehicle fire on the John Ross highway in Richards Bay prompts road closure during morning rush-hour

CITY of uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue personnel were quick to arrive at the scene of a vehicle that burst into flames on the John Ross highway in Richards Bay earlier this morning (Wednesday).

Rush hour traffic was affected by the fire, which was reported shortly after 7.30am.

The incident prompted the closure of the highway between the R619 North Central Arterial intersection on the westbound carriageway towards Empangeni, with motorists diverted onto alternative routes.

While the car was parked at the roadside, emergency services closed the roadway for safety and to clear the road of any debris or oil that may have spilt during the fire.
