12-hour water shutdown planned for Empangeni

Water supply to be interrupted amid a planned 12-hour maintenance shutdown

Water supply to Empangeni and surrounding areas will be interrupted tomorrow (Wednesday) owing to a planned 12-hour maintenance shutdown.

uMngeni-uThukela Water said the shutdown is to conduct repairs on critical pipelines.

“The shutdown will commence at 7am on Wednesday, 28 February and end at 7pm the same day.

“The work to be undertaken includes repairs to a leaking manifold and the replacement of the weir pipeline flow meter,” said the entity in a statement on Tuesday.

“At the same time as these repairs are in progress, the City of uMhlathuze will also be conducting its own repairs on leaks on the rising main to the Maguzulu Reservoir.

“Certain areas of Empangeni that are supplied from the Pearce Crescent Reservoir 1, 2 and 3 will experience some water interruptions during this time.”

The entity has vowed to ‘ensure disruptions are minimal and that the maintenance work is kept to schedule’.

It is hoped that once the work is completed, there will be a more secure supply of water to the area.
