Old problems resurface as state of uMhlathuze fire stations comes under fire
The City of uMhlathuze admits that the Richards Bay Fire Station structure is in a dire state, saying the previous council bought a structure that was not designed to be used as such.
However, the problems reported on by the ZO earlier this week are not new, and date as far back as 2012 when, in an expose by this publication, the state of the Alton fire station and the conditions in which emergency personnel were forced to work were referred to as ‘deplorable’ by the then Ward 2 committee.
Speaking to the ZO this week, city communications manager Bongani Gina said the matter of the state of Richards Bay Fire Station was raised during a council meeting two weeks ago.
