Continued disruptive rains forecast for parts of Zululand region

The Zululand region will continue to experience disruptive rains today

Continuing the weekend’s wet weather trend, parts of the Zululand region will continue to experience disruptive rains today (Monday) and into the evening.

This after the SA Weather Service (SAWS) issued another yellow level 2 warning valid between 1am and 6pm.

The areas that will be affected include uMhlathuze, Hlabisa, Nkandla, Ulundi, Nongoma, Jozini, Hluhluwe, uMlalazi, uMhlabuyalingana, Mtubatuba, Mthonjaneni and uPhongolo.

“Strong persistent onshore flow expected to sustain transport of warm and moist air with potential for disruptive rain onto north-eastern KZN.

“These weather conditions may result in some areas receiving rainfall accumulation of more than 50mm over a 24-hour period, which may lead to localised impacts such as flooding of settlements and roads, damage to mud-built houses and displacement of communities over the north-eastern region of KZN today,” said SAWS.

Motorists are urged to take caution when travelling on wet roads, while the public is warned against crossing rivers and swollen streams.

Much rain fell during the course of Sunday, with the SAWS orange level 5 warning for disruptive rains covering most of the region.

Alkantstrand was closed for swimming owing to heavy seas, while the piers were drenched with massive crashing waves.
