uMkhanyakude police clamp down on illegal firearms
Six suspects were arrested for a variety of crimes, including illegal possession of firearms
Police in uMkhanyakude District have vowed to clamp down on all illegal firearms, as well as drug dealing in the region.
This follows the arrest of six suspects on Tuesday night during police operations.
“A suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and six live rounds of ammunition at Balambo Tavern. The task team proceeded to the Mdolomba area, where they arrested a 33-year-old suspect for possession of her late father’s firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition,” said uMkhanyakude Cluster spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa.
“The suspect gave her late father’s firearm to her boyfriend living in the Ophondweni area. A 9mm pistol with three live rounds of ammunition was found on top of the wardrobe.
“In the Ntondweni area, a 40-year-old woman was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with 14 live rounds of ammunition. This was followed by the arrest of a 28-year-old man who was arrested for possession of 10 capsules of mandrax,” he said.
Hlabisa added that in the Nkundusi area, a suspect was found in possession of whoonga. The police team proceeded to Dukuduku where a male suspect was arrested for illegal dealing in liquor.
