Blood bank launches 5 000 units campaign

Take part in the 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5 000 Units of Blood campaign this Saturday

The dire shortage of blood donations in recent years has prompted the launch of the 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5 000 Units of Blood campaign.

Launched by the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) in partnership with the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS), the aim is to collect 5 000 units of blood on Saturday, 13 April.

“We are very excited to host the first 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5 000 Units of Blood campaign. We hope all South Africans who are eligible to donate blood will support us on this day,” said Marike Carli, WCBS public relations manager.

Blood services are anticipating blood stock shortages leading up to the winter months.

“Right now, we need all the help we can get from current and potential donors. We ask that all South Africans consider becoming regular donors.

“By donating blood regularly, we can easily maintain safe stock levels throughout the year,” said Thandi Mosupye, SANBS senior manager of marketing, communication and brand.

Join WCBS and SANBS on Saturday from 9am to 4pm at any of the following participating malls for your blood donation:

· The Pavilion Shopping Centre – Westville
· Saxony Westwood Mall – Westville
· Chatsworth Centre – Westcliff
· Gateway Theatre of Shopping – uMhlanga
· Liberty Mall – Pietermaritzburg
· Galleria Mall – Amanzimtoti
· Phoenix Plaza – Phoenix
· Cornubia Mall – Mount Edgecombe
