Lengthy sentence for Nongoma robber

Nongoma robber sentenced to 31 years' imprisonment

A Nongoma robber was sentenced to 31 years’ imprisonment last week – a clear message by the courts that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.

Njabulo Ntombela (40) was given five years for housebreaking with intent to rob, six years for housebreaking with intent to steal, and 20 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances by the Nongoma Regional Court.

The court heard that at around midnight on 17 December 2019, Simphiwe Buthelezi (23) was awakened by the sound of a gunshot in his home.

Three suspects stormed into his house and ordered him not to look at them.

One took an Omega radio while others took furniture and clothing.

Fingerprint identification and items found at Ntombela’s home connected him to the robbery and he was arrested. His two accomplices are still at large.

Nongoma station commander Brigadier VS Dludla applauded investigating officer, Detective Sergeant SB Zulu for his hard work.

He also commended the lengthy conviction, saying it would send a clear message that ‘there is no place for such cruel people in our area’.
