48-hour water shutdown planned for Empangeni

Planned shutdown to affect water supply to Empangeni residents

Water supply to Empangeni and surrounding areas will be interrupted from tomorrow (Tuesday) until Thursday, 9 May owing to a planned shutdown.

According to uMngeni-uThukela Water, the shutdown is to allow for the integration of new infrastructure at the Nsezi Water Treatment Plant following its recent upgrade.

“This will increase the production capacity of the plant from the current 205 mega litres a day to 260 mega litres.

“The plant supplies bulk water to the City of uMhlathuze, which is then reticulated to Richards Bay, Empangeni and surrounding areas,” the utility said in a statement.

The shutdown will commence on Tuesday, 7 May at 6am until Thursday, 9 May at 10am.

“In order to ensure that disruptions are kept minimal, uMngeni-uThukela Water will be supplying water tankers to Empangeni and surrounding areas.

“The Nsezi Water Treatment Plant upgrade is integral to ensuring future water security in the area,” said uMngeni-uThukela.
