Municipal aid for uMfolozi fire victims

Two families in uMfolozi have received much-needed donations after their homes were gutted by fire, claiming two lives

Fire victims in uMfolozi were greatly assisted when the local municipality donated food and necessities to keep them warm during their time of need.

This as uMfolozi Municipality has been hit hard with the occurrence of fires, claiming the lives of two residents and leaving their respective families homeless.

Speaking after a visit by Ward 14 Councillor Norman Ngubane to the Dengo and Ntuli families on Wednesday, uMfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu urged residents to be vigilant with candles and other burning substances that could lead to house fires.

At this stage, the cause of both fires is still unclear.

Cllr Ngubane, who has been an integral part of assisting the two affected families, said through the municipality’s disaster programme they are in the process of building a temporary structure for the Ntuli family whose house completely burnt down.

“We urge all local businesses to assist with anything [they can] for both families while we are in the process of applying for proper structures from the government. We also want to thank all the neighbours for their unwavering support to these families in their time of need,” said Ngubane.

Any good Samaritan who wishes to assist the Ntuli and Dengo families can contact Ngubane on 076 0765174.
