Do you believe in Friday the 13th superstition?
Friday may be an unlucky day for those who believe in the age-old superstition
This Friday may be an ‘unlucky’ day for those who believe in the age-old superstitions of ‘Friday the 13th’.
The date, which has inspired novels and horror movies, is believed to be one filled with bad luck – much like breaking a mirror, opening an umbrella inside, or walking under a ladder.
According to reports, its origin is believed to stem from the story of The Last Supper, an event in the Christian religion where the 12 disciples were seated at the table alongside Jesus.
The 13th person seated at the table happened to be Judas Iscariot, the man who ended up betraying Jesus, resulting in his crucifixion the following day.
Whatever its origin, the phobia of this date has been psychologically termed friggatriskaidekaphobia – the fear of Friday the 13th, or triskaidekaphobia – the extreme superstition regarding the number 13.
