Man flees hijackers, vehicle later recovered

A Mandlazini man is lucky to be alive after escaping the clutches of his alleged hijackers on Friday evening.

While the victim escaped with no physical injuries, his vehicle had already been stripped of tyres and other parts by the time it was recovered in Mzingazi over the weekend.

The incident occurred at Mandlazini Phase 7. The complainant was waiting for a friend in his stationary vehicle when he was approached by two armed men at both front doors.

The driver was pushed to the passenger seat, while one suspect drove the vehicle to a bushy area in Mandlazini where they tied him with cable ties and instructed him to call his brother to bring a ransom of R30 000 for his release.

He managed to open the vehicle door and run into the bushes until he reached his friend’s house and was able to call for help.
