WATCH: Thuthukani Special School puts on spectacular show

Thuthukani Special School puts together a spectacular Night with Champions at uMfolozi Casino

Captivating the hearts of some 300 audience members, Thuthukani Special School performed their variety show, A Night with Champions, at uMfolozi Casino last Thursday evening.

Five years since their last live concert, the 140 learners returned to the stage, having perfected their songs and choreography since the start of the school year.

The special needs children, often hidden behind society for being different, confidently took to the stage.

“We’re seeing here tonight that they don’t need to hide behind anyone. They can do absolutely anything we can do, and beyond,” said Dave Savides, MC for the evening.

“They are an inspiration to us every day and I cannot tell you how proud I am,” said Marthie Combrinck, Thuthukani principal.

Thuthukani needs your help

The school has 440 children and provides them with meals and transport, with the government subsidy barely covering costs.
Additionally, there is a waiting list of 300 children.

“Our community is the reason Thuthukani is still standing, but it is only just. Without your support, Thuthukani will not be able to continue forever,” said Savides.

He urged local businesses to offer suitable employment for the 18 year olds finishing at Thuthukani.

To get involved, email principal@thuthukani.org.za or call 035 7920080 and ask for the principal.
