Schools drive Richards Bay food challenge for charity
Donate one can of food and make a big difference this festive season
Can you donate one item of canned food?
All it takes is one can of food to support Richards Bay NPO Walk in Faith’s food drive challenge to put together over 230 grocery hampers to feed families in need this December.
The challenge, which calls all schools, day care centres, pre-schools, after care centres, businesses and community groups to participate in the non-perishable food collection challenge, has already garnered support from Little People’s Centre, Tiny Todz Day Care and ZulTap Agricultural Enterprises CC.
Walk in Faith founder Merinda Ackerman said donations of non-perishable food items can be delivered to 38 Raphia Palm in Arboretum, and the collection deadline is 30 November.

“We invite everyone to participate in the challenge because families will need extra groceries over the festive season as children will be at home for several weeks and will not receive their regular lunch meals that Walk in Faith provides daily at school,” said Ackerman.
“We remind our donors and sponsors that through their donations to our charity, they can also receive part of their donation back from Sars as part of the allowable tax benefits.
“Sars allows individuals, trusts, private and public companies to donate to charities registered as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).
“Walk in Faith is a registered PBO under Section 18A, which provides tax exemption benefits to donors. This allows you to put your money where you know it will make a difference.
“We are grateful to our many supporters and the community who continue to help us do our work in assisting the less fortunate in our communities.
“We appeal to schools and organisations to participate in our food drives, and invite their learners and families to get involved too.
“Our drives for senior citizens, teenagers, toiletry and essential items are ongoing.”
