Watch: Thula Thula Game Reserve’s new hippos arrive

Four hippos released onto Thula Thula Private Game Reserve in Empangeni

“The girls have arrived!” exclaimed Francois Malby-Anthony, Thula Thula Game Reserve owner, when four hippos were released into the park on Thursday.

“Two mothers and two baby girls will be joining our resident hippo family of seven. We named them Coco, Chanel, Charlotte and Valentine,” said Malby-Anthony.

Upon arrival, the first hippo timidly looked around from the back of the truck and as soon as she sighted the nearest dam – Mine Dam in the southern part of the 4 500ha reserve – made a beeline for it, jiggling her way to the water.

The other three soon followed suit and can be seen in the video enthusiastically jumping out of the truck.
