2 fatalities in Empangeni Collision

TWO people sustained fatal injuries in an accident between a light motor vehicle and a coal side tipper truck in Empangeni early this morning (Sunday).

The collision occurred on the R34 near Empangeni SPCA turnoff.

Both occupants of the small vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene while the truck driver sustained minor injuries, received medical attention and was transported to the hospital.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services’ Lucky Sibisi said upon arrival at the scene, emergency personnel discovered that, tragically, two individuals from the car had passed away before the arrival of emergency services.

“One person from the collision sustained minor injuries and received medical attention on-scene before being transported to a local hospital for further care,” said Sibisi.

He added that the relevant authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
