Sizzling start to week for Zululand region

Sizzle City is set to live up to its name on Monday as the week starts with excessively high temperatures in both Empangeni and Richards Bay, as well as across much of the Zululand region.

Empangeni, Mtunzini and Richards Bay can all expect an unseasonably hot 36 degrees Celsius and brilliant sunshine on Monday, while eShowe, Hluhluwe and Pongola residents are in for 35 degrees.

Slightly cooler elsewhere, Mtubatuba can expect a milder 30 degrees.

Dipping sharply on Tuesday, however, Empangeni, Mtunzini, Mtubatuba and Richards Bay can expect highs of around 24 degrees with rain, while Pongola is in for a partly cloudy day at 25 degrees. eShowe residents can expect 23 degrees with rain.

Zululanders should make the most of the cooler spring days as the SA Weather Service (SAWS) is predicting a hot, wet summer, with both minimum and maximum temperatures expected to be above average countrywide.

According to the SAWS’ long-range weather forecast issued at the beginning of November, the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is in a neutral state and is predicted to weaken further.

Current predictions indicate the development of a weak La Niña state during the start of the summer season, but there is ‘significant uncertainty’ in the predictions, according to the SAWS.
