Man nabbed for stealing a Golf 6 at knifepoint in Empangeni has been sentenced in Ngwelezana Regional Court

The victim of an armed robbery with aggravating circumstances could not contain her emotion when Ngwelezana Regional Court sentenced her attacker to 13 years behind bars.

After committing the crime on 4 October 2022, Mhlonipheni Mlawu (37) was arrested the same day after being found seated in the driver’s seat of the Golf 6 he stole at knifepoint.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, the victim had gone to Empangeni bus rank to meet with her mother’s helper to hand over a grocery hamper, her monthly wages and stokvel money.

At the bus rank, the victim parked her car and went to the bus stop to look for the helper, but when she realised the helper was not yet at the bus stop, the woman returned to her car.

While approaching her car, she noticed a man urinating in front of the vehicle and she thought he was a drunkard…
