Thunderstorm warning for Zululand region

A yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for the majority of KwaZulu-Natal

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) has once again issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms for the majority of KwaZulu-Natal.

While not the whole of the Zululand region will be affected, parts are included in the warning, including Mandeni, Nkandla and uMlalazi.

The warning is in place from 2pm today (Thursday) to 11pm tonight.

“Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, excessive lightning, hail and heavy downpours are expected over KZN,” said the SAWS.

Potential impacts include localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, livestock; localised injuries due to lightning; localised and short-term disruption to essential services, and localised flooding of susceptible roads.

“Take caution or avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low-lying areas as these may be susceptible to flooding,” continued the SAWS.

“If possible, stay indoors, well clear of windows; shelter pets and cover vehicles. Move livestock and cars to safe sheltered areas as there may be flying debris.”
