Security companies aid in fight against crime

Operation conducted amid ongoing efforts to fight crime in Empangeni

One suspect was arrested on Tuesday in a private security sting near Empangeni Rail for drug dealing, before being detained at the local police station.

According to the KDP Consulting security company owner Cyril Paton, drug dealing activities were taking place in a squatter settlement in the vicinity of Empangeni Rail.

“Police were called and he was handed over to them,” said Paton.

He added that upcoming operations would focus on other suspected drug dealers within Empangeni.

In a separate incident, after a homeowner in Veldenvlei notified Westpoint Security that his firearm had been taken from his house, they were soon able to trace its whereabouts.

Working with the police, interrogation of suspects in the eNseleni area resulted in them handing over the firearm, which had been hidden on the property.

The suspects were detained and taken into police custody.
